How widespread is criminal culture in Italy? I would like each of you readers to judge basing on your personal experience.
Civil society is a collaboration of every family units for the good.
On the contrary, the mafia is a complicity for the purpose of extorting money and resources from others or in any case for the purpose of sabotaging people who do not adhere to mafia.
But how widespread is mafia culture?
Civil society is always committed to helping people in difficulty.
Criminal society, on the contrary, is always committed in sabotage of people of merit. After a question of interest or even simply due to ideological idiosyncrasy.
Now, think in accordance with your daily experience. Today, in Italy, are there more people committed to doing good or people committed to harming others?
The catchphrase of the criminals is “mind your own business” but the rule is not applied to them or when they impose their interests.
When the mafia barons say that a person is no good, it is forbidden not to attack this person, at any social or institutional level. Well yes, the institutions also participate in the persecution, which are made up of people and people can make mistakes and, in Italy, they boast about it!  When this is not the justification, then the problem is that the law does not work, so they feel authorized to become castigators by failing in their duties or by exploiting state authority (and state impunity).
This is why you cannot escape extortion.
You should not imagine mafiosi as robbers in suits and ties but as feudal lords who manage their territory by whispering, without the responsibility of command because, in Italy, the fault is always someone else’s.
The only way to stop personal persecution is to pay the toll, the pizzo. We must compromise with the criminal and hope that, in this way, we can contain his beastial impulses for a while. But no one guarantees you that the mafia barons, slaves to their pent-up frustrations, will be satisfied first ir later. Nor does anyone guarantee that you will ever obtain justice, alive or dead. Italy is disorder, suffering and resignation.
The only duty for an Italian is to participate in the persecution, under penalty of becoming the persecuted. Even in this, the mafia resembles a huge satanic sect.
